L’autore illustrerà come tale alleanza risulta essere propedeutica al trattamento con EMDR e quanto sia fondamentale, per una piene riuscita della terapia, la creazione di un’alleanza allargata, che raggiunga anche i genitori e più in generale tutte le figure di accudimento che ruotano attorno ai bambini. Offrire supporto psicologico e EMDR ai genitori, infatti, accresce l’efficacia del trattamento nei bambini in quanto: • L’accordo con i genitori sulle attività terapeutiche che verranno svolte e sugli obiettivi di tale intervento, facilita il lavoro del terapeuta nella fase di preparazione del bambino. • La psicoeducazione fatta al genitore permette a quest’ultimo di aiutare il proprio bambino nello sviluppo di risorse aggiuntive per il contenimento emotivo, utili sia in fase di preparazione che durante la vera e propria elaborazione del trauma. • Il benessere del genitore porta ad una risoluzione più rapida della sintomatologia del bambino, spesso determinata o aggravata proprio dall’intuizione del bambino circa il disagio del genitore e dal suo tentativo di porvi rimedio. Tutto ciò verrà esposto con l’ausilio di due casi clinici di bambini trattati a seguito dell’incidente avvenuto in data 8 maggio 2007 a Stroppiana (VC) nel quale un pullman contenente tutti i bambini della scuola elementare si è ribaltato. 39 bambini sono sopravvissuti, 2 hanno perso la vita.

The work will be treated the centrality of the therapeutic alliance in a speech carried on trauma on child victims of collective disaster. The author illustrates how this alliance appears to be preparatory treatment with EMDR and the fundamental for a full success of therapy, the creation of an enlarged alliance, which also reaches parents and more generally all caregivers that revolve around children. Offer psychological support and EMDR to Parents, in fact, increases the effectiveness of treatment in children because: • The agreement with parents about therapeutic activities to be carried out and the objectives of such intervention, the therapist facilitates the work in preparing the child • The parent psychoeducation made to allow him to help your child development of additional resources for emotional content, useful both during preparation and during the actual processing of the trauma • The welfare of the parent leads to a more rapid resolution of symptoms of child, often determining or increasing the child's own intuition about the inconvenience the parent and its attempt to remedy. This will be explained with the help of two clinical cases of children treated after incident occurred on 8 May 2007 Stroppiana (VC) in which a bus containing all primary school children was overturned. 39 children survivors, 2 have died.

Abstract:
The present study was designed to isolate the effects of the eye-movement component of the Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) procedure in the treatment of fear of public speaking. Seventy-one undergraduate psychology students who responded in a fearful manner on the Fear Survey Schedule II and on a standardized, self-report measure of public speaking anxiety (Personal Report of Confidence as a Speaker; PRCS) were randomly assigned to one of four groups in a 2 × 2 factorial design. The two independent variables assessed were treatment condition (imagery plus eye movements vs. imagery alone) and type of imagery (fear-relevant vs. relaxing). Dependent variables assessed were self-reported and physiological anxiety during exposure and behavioral indices of anxiety while giving a speech. Although process measures indicated exposure to fear-relevant imagery increased anxiety during the procedure, no significant differences among groups were found on any of the outcome measures, except that participants who received eye movements were less likely to give a speech posttreatment than participants who did not receive eye movements. Addition of the eye movements to the experimental procedure did not result in enhancement of fear reduction. It was concluded, consistent with the results of past research, that previously reported positive effects of the EMDR procedure may be largely due to exposure to conditioned stimuli (ScienceDirect).

Hay expresiones que cambian la historia de nuestra profesión. "Inconsciente" "doble vínculo", "indefensión aprendida", "homeostasis familiar" o "burn out" para no poner más que unos pocos ejemplos y pidiendo perdón a tantos otros. Cambian la historia de las ideas, suele decirse, basándose quizás en la ilusión de que las ideas son entelequies que flotan en el cosmos. Sin embargo es mucho más. Cuando nace una verdadera idea ya ha cambiado o está a punto de cambiar una determinada práctica social, que entonces provoca más cambios en un determinado contexto (un "discurso" vaya, ya puestos...). La palabra "autoestima", por ejemplo, surgida hace unos años se ha ido extendiendo y dejando su huella como una marca de origen en muchas expresiones alusivas a estados de ánimo hasta convertirse en moneda de cambio. Tener la autoestima "baja" o "alta", o "veo que no tienes ningún problema de autoestima" son enunciados que se ha convertido en una "seña de identidad". Feliz expresión esta última! Todos la usamos sin la menor obligación de haber leído la novela de Juan Goytisolo que la acuñó, ni tan solo la necesidad de saber que era el título.

There are expressions that change the history of our profession. "Unconscious" double bind ","learned helplessness"," family homeostasis "or" burn out "for not putting more than a few examples and asking forgiveness as many others. Change the history of ideas, they say, perhaps based on the illusion that ideas are pipe dreams floating in the cosmos. However it is much more. Birth of a true idea has changed or is about to change a particular social practice, which then causes more changes in a particular context (a "speech" will, for that matter ...). The word "esteem"for example, born a few years ago has spread and leaving his mark as a mark of origin in many expressions suggestive of moods to become currency. Having self-esteem "low" or "high" or "I see you have no self-esteem problem" are statements that has become a "hallmark. " Happy latter expression! All we use it without any obligation to have read the novel by Juan Goytisolo who coined it, not even the need to know which was the title.

Stuttering can be defined in general terms as disturbance in the fluency of speech. Stuttering shows itself with psychological reactions as abstaining from talking, being afraid of making mistakes and with motor reactions as tics in different parts of the body, elongations, repetitions of the words and hesitations. In addition stuttering people are often observed to avoid speaking in certain situations, with certain people, showing social anxiety, high levels of distress and muscle contractions before and/or while speaking. They are also noted to experience relational difficulties and poor quality of life related to all the above factors. Even though there are different etiological approaches for stuttering, we observe that people with stuttering problem have early childhood traumas. Throughout their lives, other traumatic events, mostly related to stuttering; feelings of humiliation, inadequacy, rejection and others worsen the problem. According to our limited number of cases working with those traumas significantly decreases our clients’ social anxiety and this improvement is positively reflected to the fluency of their speech. In this workshop, we will first give general information about stuttering and its etiology, emphasize how relations are organized around stuttering and with video clips we will present how we approach the treatment of stuttering from an EMDR perspective.

En términos generales, se puede definir el tartamudeo como una alteración en la fluidez del lenguaje. El tartamudeo se manifiesta a través de reacciones psicológicas tales como abstenerse de hablar, tener miedo de equivocarse y con reacciones motrices como tics en distintas partes del cuerpo, prolongaciones, repeticiones de las palabras y vacilaciones. Es más, a menudo se observa que las personas que sufren del tartamudeo evitan hablar durante ciertas situaciones, con algunas personas en particular; muestran ansiedad social, niveles altos de estrés, y contracciones musculares antes y/o mientras hablan. También se ve que sufren dificultades con las relaciones y una mala calidad de vida relacionada con los factores previamente mencionados. Si bien existen planteamientos etiológicos distintos para tratar el tartamudeo, hemos observado que los individuos con problemas de tartamudeo han sufrido eventos traumáticos en la infancia. A lo largo de sus vidas, otros sucesos traumáticos, en su mayoría relacionados con el tartamudeo; sentimientos de humillación, ineptitud, rechazo y otros empeoran el problema. En nuestra experiencia limitada, el trabajo con estos sucesos traumáticos disminuye significativamente la ansiedad social de nuestros clientes y dicha mejoría se refleja positivamente en la fluidez de su habla. En este taller, empezaremos por ofrecer información general acerca del tartamudeo y su etiología; señalaremos cómo se organizan las relaciones entorno al tartamudeo y, con vídeos, presentaremos nuestra forma de afrontar el tratamiento del tartamudeo desde la perspectiva de EMDR.

In our therapeutic EMDR work with deaf and hard of hearing clients, we are forced to strongly focus on the visual world. But focus on visual aspects is not only necessary with this client group! When working with pre-­‐verbal trauma, with children or adults who are (not yet) fluent in their native speech or when we use EMDR with clients that use a second language, we will have to use alternatives to spoken languages. When used correctly, visual input can enrich and enable the EMDR process greatly. In this presentation we invite visitors to explore the visual aspects and possibilities of the EMDR process with us. Visitors will feel more adequate in using mimic, visual and imaging techniques with their clients. Video material will enrich our presentation. We will present in English and Dutch sign language. Our interpreter will translate the Dutch sign language in spoken English.

Los infantes (0-­‐4 años) pueden ser expuestos a diversos tipos de eventos traumáticos, por ejemplo procedimientos médicos intrusivos, abuso sexual y otras formas de violencia física o emocional, y pueden desarrollar síntomas de estrés post-­‐traumático. Por otro lado, no es fácil determinar si están traumatizados desde esa edad, la mayoría de los niños no son capaces de comunicar verbalmente sus experiencias. En la mayoría de los ejemplo, son los padres los que notan un cambio en el comportamiento de su hijo y van en busca de ayuda. Los terapeutas junto con los padres y usando la información disponible del propio niño, desarrollan una hipótesis sobre el origen de los síntomas. Si existen indicios de que los síntomas actuales están relacionados con un evento traumático sin procesar, EMDR es idóneo. El método de Cuenta-­‐cuentos de Lovett puede ser usado para este propósito. Se necesita prestar una especial atención a la interacción entre los padres y el niño. Los padres pueden encontrar difícil apoyar a su hijo o reaccionar adecuadamente al comportamiento del niño cuando se sienten ansiosos o culpables de este evento traumático. Este tipo de cuestiones deben ser tomadas en cuenta ya que pueden agravar los síntomas ya existentes en el niño Después de una pequeña introducción teórica, numerosos casos serán mostrados en video. Mostramos como los recuerdos traumáticos sin procesar en infantes pueden ser activados y procesados. En uno de los casos EMDR se combinará con elementos de la terapia orientada a padres. Conceptos sobre el apego y sus efectos en el EMDR serán mostrados.

This study was designed to test the effectiveness of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) in reducing communication apprehension (CA) specifically public speaking apprehension (PSA). Literature on CA and available interventions is reviewed. An overview of the EMDR process is discussed. The study employs a pre/posttest experimental design. The independent variables involve four treatment conditions--EMDR, Systematic Desensitization (SD), placebo, and control. The dependent variables include the Personal Report of Communication Apprehension-trait public speaking subscale (PRCA-PSS) (McCroskey, 1997) and the State CA scale (STAI) (Spielberger, Gorsuch, and Lushene, 1970). These data indicated significant results in reduction of trait and state communication apprehension for both EMDR and SD interventions. EMDR and SD appear to be equally effective in reducing CA associated with public speaking. The implications of these findings are discussed in the final chapter of this dissertation.

The purpose of this study was to replicate the results of previous research with respect to EMD/R (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) and of this researcher's investigation of EMD/R treatment of public-speaking anxiety (Foley & Spates, 1995). The present study, however, included components to permit more extensive analysis of the elements of treatment that contribute to therapeutic effectiveness. The study investigated the contribution of assessment speeches to treatment effectiveness by using a two factor design in which one factor featured a condition of pre-treatment/post-treatment speeches vs. a condition of post-treatment speeches only. The other factor featured two treatment conditions, permitting consideration of the contribution of the imaginal exposure component of EMD/R to treatment effectiveness. One treatment condition received EMD/R while the other condition received an alternative treatment that differed from EMD/R only in that there were no instructions to visualize the traumatic event during the eye movement component. Subjects were 32 college students who suffered from communication anxiety and had experienced a specific traumatic event related to a communication situation. The research was carried out in a two factor repeated measures design consisting of four treatment groups: EMD/R-speech condition, EMD/R-no speech condition, Alternative treatment-speech condition, Alternative treatment-no speech condition. Results showed a significant decrease from pre to post-treatment for all groups on several measures. There were no significant differences between groups; however, the results on one measure (CAI) suggests that if power were increased, the groups would differ significantly with respect to the pre-treatment behavioral assessment factor. Abstract:
This study explored the effects of eye movements, as compared with eye stabilization and an attention control in reducing anxiety related to public speaking in a non-clinical sample. Nineteen subjects with public speaking anxiety identified their worst memory of speaking in public and either moved their eyes in cadence with the experimenter's fingers, fixated their eyes on the experimenter's fingers, or simply talked about negative experiences related to public speaking. Reduction in anxiety was measured by the Subjective Units of Disturbance scale (Wolpe, 1982) or the Personal Report of Confidence as a Speaker (Paul, 1966). Cognitive change was measured by the Validity of Cognition scale (Shapiro, 1989). Global symptoms were measured by the Symptom Checklist-90-Revised (SCL-90-R, Derogatis, 1983). Analysis of the data indicated that there was no significant difference between groups on any of the measures. This study did not explore the efficacy of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), but rather the effects of eye movements alone. According to the results of the this study, eye movements are not sufficient to create the kind of changes seen in the EMDR literature. The wellbeing of rescuers: Relational, organizational and technical aspects that can affect rescuers' wellbeing during rescue activities: Stress inoculation, role playing and the role of mirror neurons in training, also through the use of video recordings. Relaxation techniques, psychological debriefing and EMDR in trainings.

Focus of our intervention is the wellbeing of the rescuer. The study and research on this matter came and were carried out thanks to the activity done both during trainings and simulations of the Civil Protection than real emergencies. Our team work received contribution by some psychologists of OPP (Parma’s Psychologists’ Observatory: A.Sozzi, E.Pedrelli, F.Frati, A. Bocelli, T. Serra). Wellbeing, defined as a subjective and positive emotional state together with a global life satisfaction (Diener, 1984), is strongly at risk during rescuer’s emergency activities and can affect the rescuer both physically and psychologically. The rescuer's capabilities, that we think are technical “know how” and thorough knowledge, are essential to give the best performance according to the complexity and urgency of the intervention. These skills can really contribute to the rescuer's wellbeing, because they can improve the self-efficiency perception. To effectively manage and train rescuers, it is furthermore important to consider and acknowledge the influence of interpersonal relationships on technical performances. It is, in fact, particularly important to recognize and support the typical relationships that can be created in a team with the same task and specialization, as well as in multidisciplinary teams, or teams belonging to different Institutions but operating in the same scenario.

In recent years increasing attention has been given to training activities, even through the use of the role play for interventions in artificial emergency scenarios. To recreate scenarios of massive emergencies, different Civil Protection Associations, as well as First Aid volunteer associations and the local Institutions have been involved. In these simulations, most cases focus on improving technical performances. Lately psychologists have been asked to join the rescuers team. During these simulations, the role-play of emotional and psychological problems occurs thanks to the cooperation between emergency psychologists and the medical team. The introduction of the role and expertise of psychologists allowed to extend and strengthen the attention to cross support and care aspects for the psychological wellbeing of both victims and rescuers. The psychologist must therefore consider the “wellbeing” in all the emergency scenarios and contexts, as a sum of all the components that we talked about here and the ones we will describe during our intervention. He must first of all be aware of the complexity of each intervention in the field, and adopt a kind of approach aimed at creating and recovering wellbeing strategies, that can be used by himself as well. Strategies on how to build, recover and maintain the wellbeing identify stress as the first danger source the rescuer has to face in his training and emergency activity. When external events or stimuli are perceived as difficult to face compared with resources available at that moment, the individual gets stressed. When the person's efforts are not adaptive to the external requests and/or coherent with his performance expectations, he becomes vulnerable to emotional, behavioural, cognitive and physical reactions, which can be even very difficult to manage both in the short and/or in the medium-long term. This can happen when the sources of stress depend on the rescuer’s performance, and it can also happen in case of post traumatic stress, visible in different stages after the event. From the psychologist's specialist background and from the integration of this with the result of field experiences, the demand for a range of different tools to manage the different kinds of stress emerges, and these tools must be applicable both to the individual and to the group. This range is still improving, and the results of our observational activity from past and present experiences lead us to see the opportunity to carry on our research of tools of efficacy. During this speech we would like to underline that approaches like Stress Inoculation Training (SIT, Michenbaum, 1983) and the use of role playing allow the technical appraisal and let the rescuers improve their stress management skills, and all that can lead to a decrease in the risk of PTSD. In past simulations of emergencies, we found out that the use of videotapes for the role plays is a tool that should be taken more into account. We think it is important to evaluate its potential for the rescuers' benefit, because it seems to be not only “a record of technical performances”, but also an observation and learning tool about the rescuer's own defence and adaptive strategies. In fact, during these simulations we found out that the rescuers' psychological and emotional vulnerability emerged in several situations. The fact that even in these artificial situations there were acute stress episodes and O codes urged us to focus more on the matter of mutual influence between technical performance and internal experience of stress. We understand that such acute stress episodes may occur during real life critical events but we can see how role playing and video recordings show that such acute stress episodes affected the simulators themselves even during the simulation. The videos show that even apparently “high immunity” simulators, who are considered 'immune' thanks to their comprehensive and strong experience, experienced acute stress, perhaps because of an incorrect selfevaluation of their own stress management skills. The interest in the use of videos as a training and reprocessing tool for rescuers led some of us to specialize in role playing recording, so as to carry out a more accurate and comprehensive study on those same videos and use them as a mirror of reality and better educational tool through a vicar experience or through “seeing oneself from within the experience” and in the interpersonal dynamics that took place in the scenario. Videotapes are a very known and widely used tool in other kinds of trainings, disciplines and therapies (i.e. Family Therapy and CBT). The discovery of mirror neurons by Rizzolati, Gallese et Al., provides the evidence that when someone observes the same action performed by another person, the neurons "mirrors" the behaviour of that person, as though the observer were itself acting. Thanks to these researchers it is now proven that this can happen thanks to the motor neurons in the pre-motor cortex. Therefore, we would like to underline the role of videos as very useful and versatile training tools, since they expose a situation in an unexpected realistic manner “as if” it were true and “as if” we were really experiencing that situation, with the consequent learning movements at the emotional, cognitive and behavioural level, at the stress management level, as well as at the level of team work dynamics. Visual imagination activates the same brain regions that are active during visual perception and motor imagination activates the same brain regions activated the movement is really happening. More importantly, it was possible for us to verify that the videos recorded by other operators were not focused on showing the important psychological aspects we mentioned for the goal of the trainings, thing that happened instead with the videos recorded by psychologists. We think therefore that the use of videotapes recorded by psychologists should be given more consideration in the trainings of rescuers. During this intervention we will devote part of the time to broadcasting two short videos; the first one shows the role playing of an intervention in an emergency context, and the second one shows a part of an EMDR session (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing). We think it is important to recreate and protect rescuers wellbeing in the post-role playing and post emergency stages too. For years EMDR has been proven effective in improving the individual's coping skills and in reprocessing, wherever necessary, the post traumatic aspects resulting from critical events to whom not only the victims, but also the rescuers too, are exposed during emergencies.

In our therapeutic EMDR work with deaf and hard of hearing clients, we are forced to strongly focus on the visual world. But focus on visual aspects is not only necessary with this client group! When working with pre-­‐verbal trauma, with children or adults who are (not yet) fluent in their native speech or when we use EMDR with clients that use a second language, we will have to use alternatives to spoken languages. When used correctly, visual input can enrich and enable the EMDR process greatly. In this presentation we invite visitors to explore the visual aspects and possibilities of the EMDR process with us. Visitors will feel more adequate in using mimic, visual and imaging techniques with their clients. Video material will enrich our presentation. We will present in English and Dutch sign language. Our interpreter will translate the Dutch sign language in spoken English.

En nuestro trabajo terapéutico con EMDR con clientes sordos o con hipoacusia, nos vemos obligados a centrarnos mucho en el mundo visual. Sin embargo, ¡el énfasis en los aspectos visuales no solo es necesario con este grupo de pacientes! Cuando trabajamos con trauma acaecido durante el período pre-­‐verbal, con niños o con adultos que (aún) no dominan su lengua materna o cuando usamos EMDR con clientes que hablan un segundo idioma, tendremos que hacer uso de alternativas a las lenguas habladas. Cuando se emplea correctamente, el input visual puede enriquecer y capacitar el proceso con EMDR mucho. En esta presentación, invitamos a los visitantes a acompañarnos en nuestra exploración de los aspectos visuales y de las posibilidades del proceso con EMDR. Los visitantes se sentirán más apropiados con la utilización de la mímica y las técnicas visuales y de imagen con sus clientes. Los vídeos servirán para enriquecer nuestras presentaciones. Presentaremos en inglés y en el lenguaje de signos del neerlandés. Nuestra intérprete traducirá de lenguaje de signos neerlandés en inglés hablado.

This condition is typically resistant to intervention, becoming more intractable the longer it persists. Tina Doesn’t Talk At School: Utilizing EMDR Within a Multi-Modal Intervention to Treat a Child with Selective Mutism describes a qualitative research study of a 4th grade student who went almost 5 years of no talking at school despite multiple intervention attempts. Dilatam a demanda em psicoterapia desafiando a rede publica de saúde. Novas saídas fazem-se urgentes, que antecipem e melhorem efeitos curativos. Desde 87 na Califórnia, Francine Shapiro criou a Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, ou simplesmente Psicoterapia por Reprocessamento de Informações, inspirada nos movimentos oculares típicos do sono REM. Método: Estudo comparativo entre efeitos de psicoterapia com ou sem recursos do EMDR, aplicando as escalas Beck para ansiedade, depressão e desesperança, e uma escala de impacto de eventos, antes e após uma sessão. Aos sujeitos do grupo experimental foi aplicado o protocolo padrão de EMDR e para os do grupo controle, o método da psicoterapia da fala. Resultados: A análise estatística demonstrou que, embora o estado inicial dos sujeitos de ambos os grupos fosse o mesmo, houve diferença significante nos resultados, na comparação pós-intervenção, para todos os itens pesquisados. O grupo de sujeitos atendidos em psicoterapia por EMDR apresentou pontuação final muito abaixo da inicial para ansiedade (p < 0,0001), depressão (p < 0,0001), desesperança (p = 0,0001) e impacto de eventos (p = 0,0083), em relação àqueles atendidos pela terapia da fala. Conclusão: A psicoterapia com EMDR é adequada para tratamento de situações traumáticas, e apresenta resultados expressivos desde a primeira sessão sobre o impacto do evento e sintomas de ansiedade, depressão, desesperança. Pelos resultados e agilidade deve ser cogitada para grandes demandas tais como na rede pública de saúde.

From 87 in California, Francine Shapiro created the Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, or simply Psychotherapy for Reprocessing Information, inspired by the eye movements typical of REM sleep. Methods: Comparative study of effects of psychotherapy with or without features of EMDR, applying Beck scales for anxiety, depression and hopelessness, and a scale of impact of events before and after a session. The subjects in the experimental group was administered the standard protocol for EMDR and the control group, the method of psychotherapy speech. Results: Statistical analysis showed that although the initial state of the subjects in both groups were the same, there was a significant difference in results when comparing post-intervention for all items surveyed. The group of subjects treated with EMDR in psychotherapy presented final score far below the initial anxiety (p <0.0001), depression (p <0.0001), hopelessness (p = 0.0001) and impact of events (p = 0.0083), compared to those treated by speech therapy. Conclusion: Psychotherapy with EMDR is suitable for treatment of traumatic situations, and presents significant results from the first session on the impact of the event and symptoms of anxiety, depression, hopelessness. The results and agility should be considered for large demands such as in public health.

Various studies have demonstrated that 15-40% of patients with obsessive-compulsive disorders (OCD) do not respond to it; they cannot be motivated to undergo treatment, drop out, or experience persisting difficulties in regulating their emotions. In this practical workshop, EMDR is presented as an additional method in the treatment of OCD. OCD-patients experienced EMDR as a useful and motivating method. Furthermore, they felt encouraged to deal with their emotions in additional psychological treatments. Confrontation therapy markedly reduced OCD symptoms. EMDR is shown as a useful augmentation method in treating patients with OCD by using videos, live-demonstrations and speech. Especially, important interweaves for OCD-patients and the timing in therapy will be shown.

Varios estudios han demostrado que entre el 15 y el 40% de los pacientes con trastornos obsesivo-compulsivo (TOC) no responden; no se les puede motivar para someterse a tratamiento, lo abandonan o sufren dificultades persistentes en la regulación de sus emociones. En este taller de naturaleza práctica, se presenta EMDR como otro método adicional [a utilizar] en el tratamiento de TOC. Los pacientes con TOC vivieron su experiencia con EMDR como un método útil y motivador. Es más, se sintieron animados a afrontar sus emociones en el entorno de otros tratamientos psicológicos. La terapia de afrontamiento redujo marcadamente sus síntomas de TOC. Se ha demostrado que EMDR representa un método útil de aumento en el tratamiento de personas con TOC mediante el empleo de vídeos, demostraciones en directo y charlas. De particular interés son los entretejidos importantes que se presentarán para la terapia en individuos con TOC y el momento idóneo para introducirlos.

Individuals with Autism have a number of complex differences that make Trauma processing exceptionally difficult. In order to use the eight step protocol with these individuals, preparation and some modifications are necessary. The process presented in this workshop will provide some general information about the characteristics of autistic individuals, step by step skill training to precede the EMDR process, the use of Carol Gray's Social Stories to help clarify those targets and situations being processed, and the EMDR protocol with slight adaptations for individuals with speech and language impairments. Also included are cautions for using EMDR with this population due to their complex differences. This process has been used successfully with individuals across the Autistic Spectrum as well as individuals with Asperger's Syndrome and other developmental disorders including Williams Syndrome. This has been developed over a 7 year span. This step by step program has been successful with abused individuals with global developtnent delays, significantly impaired speech and language abilities, and significant cognitive disabilities. Following use of the EMDR process, individuals have dcmonstrated a significant reduction in symptoms, increased verbal ability, as well as improved social relationships and self-regulation skills. These improvements have remained over time.
