El estrés subsiguiente después de un traumatismo, representa un trastorno disfuncional – tanto interno como externo – que se manifiesta en alteraciones en el reconocimiento cognitivo y en los comportamientos, llevando además asociados síntomas somáticos, afloramiento de problemas inconscientes y ansiedades. Pues una de las características del estrés post-traumático, es precisamente la pérdida de equilibrio entre el mundo interno y externo de quien lo sufre. Por eso, ante la complejidad de las respuestas post-traumáticas, éstas se pueden catalogar en gran medida dentro de las perturbaciones psicopatológicas.
El estrés psicológico surge por una situación estresante “real”, externa, tangible y la reacción ante esta difícil experiencia, evoca un conjunto bastante universal y coherente de síntomas y respuestas que provocan reacciones primitivas relacionadas con temores inconscientes ante las amenazas a la vida, que hacen aflorar incipientemente fantasías e impulsos abrumadores. Los resultados son los pensamientos disfuncionales que conducen a las respuestas y a los comportamientos desadaptativos.
Objetivos: el taller está diseñado para proporcionar a estudiantes y profesionales de la Psicología – que trabajan o desean trabajar en esta área del trauma y el cambio de comportamientos -, la habilidad para utilizar eficaz y rápidamente intervenciones breves, que puedan poner en practicar incluso en casa. En el taller se estudiará la forma inicial de evaluar, tanto al trauma como a la clientela. Se trabajará la historia del trauma y se profundizará en sus consecuencias y en cómo diseñar las intervenciones breves para hacerles frente. También se centrará en averiguar qué cambios quieren los y las clientes a través de relatos y visualizaciones, utilizando una adaptación de las terapias EMDR y la Solución Enfocada tanto a crear el cambio deseado, como a mantenerlo.
En consecuencia el taller es de particular interés para quienes trabajan con personas que han sufrido cualquier tipo de trauma, o quienes perciben acontecimientos de la vida, experiencias, etc. que les afectan de forma negativa en su día a día. También es útil para las personas que sufren de TOC, sobre todo trastornos del pensamiento.
Los aspectos más útiles de las dos técnicas que se han adaptado junto con otras innovaciones de la autora, guardan relación con la creación de un ambiente seguro, no-traumático, que actúa rápidamente y que además, se puede realizar en casa sin peligro de consecuencias negativas.
Objetivos específicos:
1. Ser capaz de describir e identificar las manifestaciones del trauma.
2. Aprender y describir dos técnicas terapéuticas breves en el tratamiento del trauma
3. Definir una técnica breve terapéutica que puede ser utilizada para fomentar el cambio
4. Destacar el rol del o de la terapeuta durante el tratamiento de los traumatismos
5. Ser capaz de describir, diseñar y establecer metas de la terapia y promover cambios mediante el uso de técnicas de terapia breve.
Métodos: la Desensibilización y Reprocesamiento por Movimientos Oculares (EMDR), es un método complejo e integrador de la psicoterapia individual, mediante el que se guía al cliente utilizando un procedimiento para acceder a sus experiencias y resolver sus problemas conductuales y emocionales. El EMDR utiliza elementos de múltiples orientaciones psicoterapéuticas tanto psicodinámicas, como cognitivo- conductuales, enfoques centrados en el cliente, gestalt y bioenergéticos.
La premisa subyacente de EMDR es que las experiencias de pánico y ansiedad se procesan de forma diferente por el cerebro que las experiencias habituales. La teoría subyacente es que durante el estrés, la memoria grava en una parte del cerebro responsable de las emociones de modulación (la amígdala) y se cierra temporalmente otra parte del cerebro (el hipocampo), responsable de procesamiento de la memoria normal. La experiencia traumática queda atrapada en el exterior y potencialmente no forma parte del procesamiento normal del cerebro, y el EMDR permite a la persona acceder a la experiencia y transformarla en memoria declarativa en el hipocampo. Con el método EMDR, el hipocampo se puede abrir a las emociones evocadas por la experiencia para que el/la cliente pueda soportarlas mientras se realiza el tratamiento. La distracción y la atención a la estimulación bilateral, desempeñan un importante papel que ayuda al cliente a experimentar las emociones como tolerables. Aunque cómo la distracción bilateral en concreto, facilita el procesamiento de las experiencias dolorosas, sea algo que todavía no se termina de entender.
Por otra parte, las Intervenciones Breves de Terapias enfocadas al Cliente se centran en las excepciones del problema, pensando que a continuación se desarrollará un cambio natural en el comportamiento. Es una especie de visión orientada no en las formas tradicionales, sino hacia el futuro, sin profundizar demasiado en la “patología” sino más bien centrándose en lo que el sistema puede hacer para adaptarse a ella, puesto que ambos pueden decidir si esa “patología” es un problema o no lo es.
Las Intervenciones de Terapia Breve enfocadas al Cliente se utilizan para resolver una variedad de problemas de comportamientos y actitudes, mediante el uso de los propios recursos de los y las clientes y las observaciones de las estrategias que utilizan para alcanzar los resultados deseados, en sus situaciones vitales habituales. Se trata de una buena técnica para establecer y mantener un contexto de cambio en el que los pequeños, pero útiles cambios, se anticipan y se buscan.
En definitiva, la combinación de ambas técnicas con algunas variaciones desarrolladas por la Dra. Barreda-Hanson, han demostrado ser una herramienta poderosa para mejorar la respuesta al tratamiento en un período de tiempo más corto, teniendo también la ventaja de permitir practicar los ejercicios en casa.
Aplicaciones: la aplicación habitual del EMDR ha sido el tratamiento de trastornos emocionales relacionados con eventos muy perturbadores o traumáticos. Pero también se usa para trabajar síntomas preocupantes como la ansiedad, la depresión, la culpa y la ira. E igualmente, se puede utilizar para mejorar recursos emocionales tales como la confianza y la autoestima.
Procedimientos:
- El taller se impartirá en español y el alumnado recibirá amplios folletos complementarios.
- Se realizará en una única jornada, en sesión de mañana para teoría y de tarde para prácticas, trabajando cada modelo por separado.
- Se espera que quienes asistan lleven una cuestión-problema sobre la que trabajar utilizando las diversas técnicas, pues aunque se utilizarán múltiples ej. de casos reales, se alentará a quienes participen a traer sus propias experiencias e ideas para debatir y trabajar sobre ellas.
The subsequent stress after trauma represents a dysfunctional disorder - internal and external - that is manifested in alterations in cognitive recognition and behavior, besides being associated somatic symptoms outcrop unconscious problems and anxieties. As one of the characteristics of post-traumatic stress, is the loss of balance between internal and external world of the sufferer. Therefore, given the complexity of post-traumatic responses, they can be categorized largely into psychopathological disturbances.
Psychological stress arises from a stressful situation "real" external, tangible and reaction to this difficult experience, quite evokes a universal and consistent set of symptoms that cause reactions and responses primitive unconscious fears related to threats to life, which bring out fantasies and impulses incipiently overwhelming. The results are the thoughts that lead to dysfunctional responses and maladaptive behaviors.
Objectives: The workshop is designed to provide students and psychology professionals - who work or want to work in this area of trauma and behavior change - the ability to quickly and efficiently use brief interventions, which may put in practice even in house. The workshop will explore how to evaluate initial both trauma as to clients. It will work history of trauma and its consequences will deepen and how design brief interventions to address them. It will also focus on finding out what changes customers want and through stories and views, using an adaptation of EMDR therapy and Solution Focused both to create the desired change, and to keep it.
Thus the workshop is of particular interest to those working with people who have suffered any kind of trauma, or who perceive life events, experiences, etc.. that negatively affect them in their day to day. Also useful for persons suffering from OCD, especially disorders of thought.
The most useful of the two techniques that have adapted along with other innovations of the author, are related to the creation of a safe, non-traumatic, acting quickly and also can be done at home without fear of consequences negative.
Specific objectives:

Methods: Desensitization and Reprocessing Eye Movement (EMDR), is a complex and inclusive method of individual psychotherapy, which is guided by the client using a procedure to access their experiences and address their behavioral and emotional problems. The EMDR uses multiple elements of both psychodynamic psychotherapeutic approaches as cognitive-behavioral, client-centered approaches, gestalt and bioenergy.
The underlying premise of EMDR is that experiences panic and anxiety are processed differently by the brain than normal experiences. The underlying theory is that during stress, gravel memory part of the brain responsible for emotions modulation (amygdala) and temporarily closes another part of the brain (hippocampus), responsible for normal memory processing. The trapped traumatic experience abroad and potentially not part of the normal brain processing, and EMDR allows people access to the experience and transform it into declarative memory in the hippocampus. With EMDR, the hippocampus can be opened to the emotions evoked by the experience that he / the client is able to bear while performing the treatment. Distraction and attention to bilateral stimulation, play an important role to help the client to experience emotions as tolerable. Although bilateral distraction how specifically facilitates the processing of painful experiences, is something that is not yet fully understood.
Moreover, brief interventions focused Customer Therapies focus on the exceptions of the problem, thinking that then will develop a natural change in behavior. It is a kind of non-oriented view on traditional forms, but to the future, without going too deeply into the "pathology" but rather focus on what the system can do to adapt to it, since both can decide whether this "pathology "is a problem or not.
Brief therapy interventions focused Customer are used to solve a variety of problem behaviors and attitudes, using their own resources and comments from customers and the strategies used to achieve the desired results in their situations normal life. This is a good technique to establish and maintain a context of change in that small but useful changes, anticipate and seek.
In short, the combination of both techniques with some variations developed by Dr. Barreda Hanson, have proved a powerful tool for improving the response to therapy in a shorter period of time, having also the advantage of allowing in practice exercises house.
Applications: the routine application of EMDR has been the treatment of emotional disorders associated with very disturbing or traumatic events. But also used to work worrying symptoms such as anxiety, depression, guilt and anger. And also, can be used to enhance emotional resources such as confidence and self-esteem.
Procedures:
- The workshop will be taught in Spanish and students will receive extensive additional brochures.
- Will be held in a single day, in morning session and afternoon theory to practice, working each model separately.
- Who are expected to attend with a question-problem on which to work using various techniques, for example, although multiple use. real cases, those involved are encouraged to bring their own experiences and ideas to discuss and work on them.

Working with EMDR and the AIP-Model have very similar goals in that they aim to strengthen the inner process of the client and overcome the effects of trauma. It is shown that the combination of both methods provides the therapist with a powerful tool. It is discussed which inner parts can play a part in processing trauma. Here we do not only look at the patient's side, but also at the side of the therapist and his or her ego-states, suggesting not only the patient takes care of traumatized ego-states and gets into touch with inner helpers, but the therapist, too takes into consideration which of his/her ego-states may be helpful or need protection whilst applying the emdr protocol.

Performance anxiety is ubiquitous in our present culture and is considered one of
the most prevalent forms of anxiety. The famous actor and comedian Jerry Seinfeld once
joked, “ At a funeral, most people would rather be in the casket than giving the eulogy!”
While nearly eighty percent of people experience some form of anxiety when they are the
center of attention, individuals who experience performance anxiety are severely
distressed and debilitated by their anxiety (Plaut, 1990). In most cases, performance
anxiety threatens to restrain an individual’s profession, goals, education, relationships or
daily life activities. While the phenomenon of acute anxiety is commonly labeled as stage
fright in the world of the performing arts, in psychological literature it is rarely specified
or considered a diagnosable mental health disorder. It is often clustered with specific
phobias or social phobia.
Indeed, performance anxiety is not an experience solely limited to actors,
musicians, singers and dancers. It affects athletes, politicians, writers, students,
professionals, leaders, and individuals in all walks of life. For this reason, it is essential
that clinicians become educated in the etiology, symptoms, manifestations and
therapeutic approaches of performance anxiety.

This pilot study investigated the effectiveness of a new model of peak performance training based on applications of brain research to stimulate mental skill acquisition leading to enhanced performance capabilities. Brain-based techniques such as Mindfulness Meditation (MM), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Cardio Imagery and Rehearsal (CIR) appear to stimulate various neurological processes including alpha and theta brain waves, higher interhemispheric coherence and reduced sympathetic nervous system arousal. Clinical application of these techniques in a preliminary pilot study with a variety of performers was shown in follow-up self-assessments to have enhanced performance outcomes on seven measures including reduced performance anxiety and self-consciousness, enhanced concentration and focus, improved memorization of performance routines and enhanced overall performance goals. The idea that specific performance routines can be installed using these brain-based techniques that enhance peak performance functioning on demand was supported by these findings.. However, the results of this pilot study are preliminary and further studies using a larger subject sample, empirically validated test measurements and independent control groups are necessary before these findings can be corroborated.

The MRI approach to brief therapy originated out of the serendipitous coming together of several incredibly creative minds that
resulted in a form of psychotherapy in which the major goal was to make psychotherapy more efficient and more effective. It evolved
out of research project on communication begun by anthropologist Gregory Bateson that soon involved the work of hypnotherapist
Milton H. Erickson and psychiatrist Don Jackson. John Weakland, Jay Haley, Paul Watzlawick and Richard Fisch began to publish
the ideas that resulted fiom the early research findings and in doing so developed a particular set of assumptions about the formation
and resolution of human problems that differed significantly from traditional treatment models of the time. Further refinements
through the clinical application of these methods resulted in a model of treatment that was a pioneer of the brief psychotherapy
movement. It is based on a non-normative and non-pathological way of viewing people with problems; it looks at people in the
context of their living situations; it resists the idea of client resistance, it places great emphasis on the use of language; and it seeks
to amplify client assets and resources and minimize client liabilities and shortcomings.
Brief therapists assume a willingness to be an active change agent for the benefit of their clients. They accept responsibility for
creating an atmosphere of respect, patience, and creativity in which clients can find alternative ways to think and behave. They
believe they have a set of tasks to perform that will hopefully result in the resolution or, as a minimum, the diminishment of the
problem situation for which the client originally sought help.
These tasks consist of a combination of ways of thinking and acting that are designed to increase the likelihood that the client will
experience relief from a painful problem. One of the main tasks for a brief therapist is to find ways to construe the problems
presented by the client so that a solution can be found. Brief therapists inquire into the interactional systemic aspects of a problem,
the context or environment in which the problem occurs, the people involved in the problematic situation, and the ways the client has
attempted to resolve the problem thus far.
Another very important task is to identify and gain access to the persons who are the most interested in and willing to work toward
changing the problem situation. The idea here is to spend the bulk of the therapeutic time and effort working with the person who is
most invested in the change process. Brief therapists find ways to appeal to this person's values and belief systems so that (s)he will
engage in activities and/or alter her/his behavior in ways that are likely to change the problem situation.
A third task on which brief therapists concentrate is the establishment of clear, concrete, and doable goals of treatment. They
collaborate with the client to determine what the client hopes to gain from treatment and when the client will know she is ready to
handle life on his/her own, this assumes an emphasis on the client's present and the possibilities for the client's future rather than
his/her past.
The fourth task brief therapists focus on is the development of ways of intervening in the way the presenting problem is being
handled in the present time. This is based on the central assumption that one of the main goals of psychotherapy is to induce
clients to change the way a problem is handled. Such intervening is the result of thoughtful and careful consideration of many factors
surrounding the problem situation and involves the use of a variety of skills.
A final task for the brief therapist is to find ways to remove him/herself from the client's life in such a way that the client has faith in
her/his own ability to function effectively without the therapist.
This treatment model offers clinicians an opportunity to work in positive, goal-directed ways that clients find helpful and therapists
find challenging and satisfying. It calls upon clinicians to develop keen observation skills, the ability to see things fiom a variety of
perspectives, and an appreciation for the vast resources clients bring with them to therapy. While it is a simple model of treatment, it
is by no means an easy one to master. It requires clinicians to step outside their usual frames of reference in the pursuit of creative
solutions to difficult human problems. It rewards them with a greater sense of accomplishment and increased client satisfaction.
In the ever-changing world of mental health, this is no small achievement.

In a study that directly compared exposure therapy, EMDR, and relaxation training in patients with PTSD, we simply provided patients with a verbal description of PTSD and its treatment, then assessed the patient's treatment goals, and discussed how the treatment was relevant to the goals. For patients who do not drop out of treatment, our findings suggest that the most consistent predictor of good outcome is whether or not the patient receives exposure therapy, and that the severity of reexperiencing symptoms is an important predictor of treatment outcome, largely because relaxation training has a poorer outcome when these symptoms are severe. The efficacy of exposure and EMDR does not appear to be affected by the severity of reexperiencing. These findings provide further support for the efficacy of exposure and, to a limited extent, support the use of EMDR. The diagnosis of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) covers a wide range of conditions, ranging from patients
suffering from a one-time traumatic accident to those who have been exposed to chronic traumatization
and repeated assaults beginning at an early age. While EMDR and other trauma treatments have been
proven efficacious in the treatment of simpler cases of PTSD, the effectiveness of treatments for more
complex cases has been less widely studied. This article examines the body of literature on the treatment
of complex PTSD and chronically traumatized populations, with a focus on EMDR treatment and research.
Despite a still limited number of randomized controlled studies of any treatment for complex PTSD,
trauma treatment experts have come to a general consensus that work with survivors of childhood abuse
and other forms of chronic traumatization should be phase-oriented, multimodal, and titrated. A phaseoriented
EMDR model for working with these patients is presented, highlighting the role of resource development
and installation (RDI) and other strategies that address the needs of patients with compromised
affect tolerance and self-regulation. EMDR treatment goals, procedures, and adaptations for each of the
various treatment phases (stabilization, trauma processing, reconnection/development of self-identity) are
reviewed. Finally, reflections on the strengths and unique advantages of EMDR in treating complex PTSD

A critical incident is any situation that causes unusually strong emotional reactions that have the potential to interfere with a person's
ability to function immediately after the incident or later. These are situations that overwhelm a person's sense of vulnerability
and/or control.
A critical incident stress debriefing (CISD) is a psychoeducational group meeting or discussion about a traumatic incident which
ideally takes place within 72 hours of the event. The goals of a CISD are to mitigate the psychological impact of a traumatic event,
prevent subsequent development of a post-traumatic syndrome, accelerate recovery, and serve as an early identification mechanism
for people who need further follow-up, including EMDR.
The steps of a CISD include:
1) introduction - to introduce the intervention team, explain the process, and set expectations.
2) fact - to describe the event from each participant's perspective on a cognitive level.
3) thought - to allow participants to describe cognitive reactions and to transition to emotional reactions.
4) reaction - to identify the most traumatic aspect of the event for participants.
5) symptom - to identify personal symptoms of distress and transition back to the cognitive level.
6) teaching - to educate as to normal reactions and adaptive coping strategies
7) reentry - to clarefy ambiguities and prepare for termination; access for follow-up.
In the opinion of the authors, the CISD facilitates the processing of the traumatic information before it becomes crystallized in
dysfunctional form.
EMDR can be very effective shortly following a CISD, and is particularly usehl for participants who are experiencing distress or
intrusive symptoms after the CISD. The CISD structure helps the participant understand the traumatic impact of the incident and
provides support and guidance toward adaptive resolution. The EMDR process begins where the CISD leaves off. The CISD helps
to delineate the traumatic image, negative cognition, and emotions associated with the event, making the subsequent EMDR process
more efficient. EMDR appears to have a very powerful and rapid effect after the CISD, perhaps, because of the initial processing.
In other words, the CISD initiates an adaptive processing of the traumatic information; EMDR completes it.
EMDR can be implemented individually immediately following the CISD, or the next day. While the CISD is a group process,
EMDR is an individual method. EMDR can be explained during the teaching phase of the CISD or after the CISD to the whole
group, but EMDR treatment is done individually and privately. EMDR can go beyond a CISD in targeting previous traumas that
may underlie the current incident, delve deeper into the meaning of the incident for the person, and target specific stimuli that are
relevant to the individual (e.g. Smells, tastes, etc.).
The workshop will discuss the application of EMDR to critical incidents. The protocol for recent events will be reviewed.
Guidelines for negative and positive cognitions will be discussed. For example, a critical incident usually involves issues of
responsibility ("Is it my fault?"), Safety ("Am I safe?"), And/or control ("Do I have choices in life?). It is important that such
dynamics are understood when formulating the negative cognition.
The dynamics of fear, a framework for understanding a critical incident and resolving issues of vulnerability and powerlessness, will
be presented. The model discusses the importance of going beyond defining the moment of peak stress to elucidating subsequent

Il caso finisce alla Procura del Tribunale per i Minorenni e N. viene collocata, sotto falso nome, in una comunità.
Il mio primo contatto con la ragazza avviene quando ha 16 anni ed è in comunità da cinque mesi. Presenta ancora i sintomi invadenti del PTSD: flashback, incubi, panico, pensieri ossessivi, isolamento, distacco emotivo che a volte la fa apparire molto calma, sovreccitazione. Non sa controllare gli impulsi e regolare le emozioni: passa dalla rabbia, che sfoga picchiando pugni contro il muro fino a ferirsi o spaccando tutto ciò che le capita sotto mano, alla eccitazione, alla depressione con sentimenti di inutilità a vivere, di colpa e di vergogna (sintomi di PTSD Complesso). Propongo e spiego da subito l’EMDR ritenendo che sia l’unico approccio terapeutico utile; stabiliamo piano terapeutico e N. esprime il suo consenso al trattamento. Particolare attenzione, data la problematicità, alla fase di preparazione e stabilizzazione. Nell’anamnesi emerge primo trauma a 10 anni, prima ricorda di essersi sentita amata e protetta. Rafforzo queste esperienze positive che diventano risorse in suo possesso. Fondamentale si rivela la psicoeducazione sui disturbi: N. accoglie con sollievo l’idea che non è “pazza” o “indemoniata” ma solo traumatizzata. Chronic headache is a prevalent clinical problem
which affects negatively the majority of the population. The
most common type of headache is migraine and tension headache.
These can decrease the functioning and the quality of
life of people who suffer from headaches in different contexts
as work, family, school and social life. In addition, a lot of psychological
disorders such as depression and anxiety are seen or
occur in people who have headaches.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness
of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
on Chronic Daily Headache and Migraine. Within this
framework there are three goals, one of which is to measure the
efficiency of EMDR treatment on chronic headache population.
The second one is to develop an EMDR Headache Protocol so
that the treatment is standardized and will be used, revised and
updated by researchers and clinicians in the future. The third
one IS to find an answer to the question: How long does it take
to treat a headache? That is, to determine the minimum and
maximum sessions necessary for the treatment.
Method: The study is carried out at Gaziosmanpa,sa Hospital
Neurology Department in Istanbul with 11 Turkish patients
who had suffered from chronic daily headache and migraine.
The sample of this study consisted of 9 women and 2 males.
Results: The results demonstrated that the frequency, the intensity
and the duration of headaches were reduced by using
EMDR Also it was shown that the number of emergency visits
and the amount of painkillers used were decreased. The study
will be explained in more detail and the results will be discussed
during the presentation.
Our learning objectives are:
1. to gain theoretical information about the rationale of using
EMDR in treatment of chronic headache and migraine
2. to gain empirical information about the efficacy of this treatment
and
3. to discuss the EMDR Headache Protocol as well as the number
of sessions necessary for the treatment.
In previous studies, EMDR has been found to be efficient in the
treatment of chronic pain. Nevertheless, there was a gap in the
literature regarding the efficacy of EMDR in the treatment of
chronic daily headache and migraine.
The novelties that are provided by this current study are
1. It may be an alternative treatment for chronic headache and
migraine in the future
2. although the research question needs further investigation, it is the first empirical study which examines the effectiveness
of this treatment.

This full-day workshop will focus on integrating EMDR into an overall recovery plan. The use of EMDR in treating complex PTSD as well as other trauma-related syndromes such as borderline personality disorder and dissociative disorders will be addressed. In recognition of clients’ limited affect tolerance, rigid defenses,
overdeveloped avoidance patterns, ego state conflicts, dissociative tendencies, and extreme emotional dysregulation, strategies for modifying and supplementing standard EMDR protocols will be explored.
Assessing the developmental and attachment needs of the client, establishing a useful case conceptualization, and developing an integrated treatment plan with achievable goals will be discussed. Considerable attention will be devoted to integrating EMDR ego strengthening and resource development protocols into all phases of treatment.

EMDR is an innovative and rapidly expanding new, treatment technique. Therapists are provided with two weekends of intensive
training and encouraged to obtain supervision and be active in peer consultation groups and networks, and work to refine their skills.
It is uncertain what percentage follow through in this regard.
Estimates of the numbers of people who are victims of sexual trauma in our society are staggering (one in 3 girls, one in seven boys).
Research finds that approximately half the people who present for psychotherapy have some sexual trauma in their history. EMDR
has been hailed as an important new technique in facilitating the treatment of those who have been sexually traumatized. With
correct usage, EMDR can greatly facilitate the treatment. At the same time, sexual trauma is a complex and volatile issue and
awkward, poorly timed, or overly simplistic usage of EMDR could potentially lead to adverse consequences for the patient and
treatment. As with any therapeutic technique or paradigm it can only be as helpful as that of the overall treatment. In addition the
mere usage of EMDR will have an impact on the therapy, as well as the therapeutic container, and therapists need to be cognizant of
what that impact will be as well as to be sure that they know how to incorporate the patient reactions into the treatment in a positive
way and not allow them to undermine, or otherwise detrimentally effect both patient and therapist primary therapy goals.
Particularly in these times of increased litigation, malpractice suits, and professional grievances against therapists those
professionals utilizing EMDR would be wise to be aware of the particular risks inherent in the patient population in which they
work, as well as the inherent vulnerability of utilizing a newly developed technique. In treating sexual trauma many experts agree
that the crucible of the therapeutic container- is whether the healing will occur if the therapist sucessfully deals with the
challenges the patient will offer lip. Again how those utilizing EMDR negotiates those challenges may be he difference between a
successful course of therapy and a disaster.
Finally, working with sexual trauma is an emotionally, intellectually, and sometimes physically demanding undertaking. Many
therapists do not fully realize or acknowledge the toll that this type of work exacts and may be blind to the countertransferentia1
responses which arise and how they are communicated to the patient.
In this workshop we will first reveal, some of the current thinking on the primary treatment issues (and obstacles) in therapy with
victims of sexual trauma. We will then examine how and when is the most propitious time to use EMDR with this population and
what reactions patients are likely to have to this type of intervention. Specific ways that EMDR and its implementation may activate
certain issues in sexual trauma victims be elucidated as well as strategies for addressing those issues. Finally participants will
engage in a series of experiential exercises designed to heighten their awareness of their own personal reactions and feelings (i.e.,
countertransference) to working with the intensity of sexual trauma. Once again these potential reactions will be linked to more or
less effective usage of EMDR.

vidence Based Practice is the new standard in the field. However, the evidence base regarding trauma treatments for children, particularly young children, is in the early stages of it's evolution.
Recent research related to the neurobiology of trauma, implicit and explicit memory systems and the impact of these dynamics on trauma treatment will be discussed. Treatments with a large evidence base, such as TF-CBT and EMDR will be discussed with a view to how many of the treatment goals can be accomplished and more easily digested by children through the vehicle of play. It is critical that practitioners who serve traumatized children be able to match interventions to treatment goals and symptomatology. Specific play therapy interventions will be tied to treatment goals in an effort to help practitioners expand their repertoires with child-friendly interventions based on the latest research.
The treatment areas covered in this workshop will include helping the client to
1) re-establish a sense of safety and security,
2) learn and practice stress inoculation strategies,
3) identify and confront faulty attributions related to the trauma,
4) restructure distorted cognitions related to the trauma and
5) create a trauma narrative.
Several play therapy interventions will be explained and demonstrated for each of the aforementioned gaols. Children accomplish the hard work of healing from trauma in a gentle, fun and safe treatment milieu. Case vignettes, slides and video clips will augment the didactic presentation. Experiential methods will also be used. Participants should come prepared to play!

Eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) has been hailed as a new experimental treatment for survivors of trauma that can provide rapid relief from the debilitating symptoms associated with PTSD. EMDR's efficacy reportedly stems from the use of eye-movements that are postulated to stimulate physiological changes in brain activity to produce cognitive restructuring and desensitization of emotional discomfort. This novel procedure has become more prominent with reported benefits for an increasing range of clinical applications. Since there is minimal controlled research, especially in a civilian population, on psychological methods to treat the ill effects of trauma and because EMDR has limited empirical support, further controlled investigation was warranted to supplement this limited body of scientific knowledge.Consequently, the specific goals of this controlled study were to evaluate (1) the efficacy of EMDR in the treatment of civilian trauma survivors, (2) whether or not eye-movements are instrumental to the therapeutic process, and (3) the treatment impact on intrusive and avoidant symptoms. It was hypothesized that (1) an EMDR treatment group would demonstrate greater efficacy when compared to an Alternative group which followed the same treatment protocol except for the substitution of deep breathing for the eye-movements, (2) both the EMDR and Alternative treatments would show significant improvement over a Control group, and (3) there would be similar changes in intrusive and avoidant symptoms. Findings at two month follow-up indicated the EMDR group had significant reductions in intrusive/avoidant symptoms (using the Impact of Event Scale), decreased emotional discomfort related to traumatic memories (rated by Subjective Units of Distress), and improvements in positive self-evaluations (measured by the Validity of Cognition Scale). There were similar results in the Alternative group with the exception of no significant improvement in self-evaluation. This latter finding provides some support for the hypothesis that eye-movements facilitate a cognitive restructuring. Comparisons between the EMDR and Alternative treatments, however, found no significant differences on any of the dependent measures. That is, both treatments appeared to produce comparable positive results which implied eye-movements were no more effective than deep breathing. In addition, both treatments were found to be more effective in easing intrusive symptoms. Other similarities included observable relaxation reactions in both treatments. These overall findings imply a similar change mechanism. Therefore, the efficacy of EMDR may stem more from reciprocal inhibition rather than a cognitive restructuring induced by the eye-movements. This chapter includes a review of certain core concepts of feminist therapy theory and an exploration of how EMDR can be integrated into feminist practice as a means of operationalizing that theory. Because feminist therapy is inherently technically eclectic, embracing interventions ranging from the psychodynamic to the most radically behavioral, the question to be addressed regarding EMDR as a feminist practice is whether its use in therapy supports feminist models of change. In feminist practice, that question is the boundary condition for inclusion of a strategy: Can its use promote feminist models and outcomes? Not every way of practicing therapy does this, and some strategies, particularly those that emphasize strategic approaches in which therapists intentionally use their power over the client, are per se problematic. However, EMDR seems to fall easily within the parameters of feminist practice and even in the hands of nonfeminist therapists advances the goals of feminist social and personal change that are at the core of feminist therapy models. In arguing that EMDR does support feminist strategies, this chapter explores the way feminist practice conceptualizes the notions of change and goodness of outcome. There is converging evidence of gray matter (GM) structural alterations in different limbic structures in Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder patients. Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) is currently used to treat PTSD but its neurobiological implications are still unknown. The aim of this study was to evaluate GM density in PTSD relation to trauma load, and to assess the GM differences between responders (R) and non-responders (NR) to EMDR therapy.
Structured clinical interviews for DSM-IV Axis I Disorders were carried out before and after EMDR treatment. Those who no longer fulfilled the DSM-IV criteria for PTSD were classified as R and those who still met the diagnostic criteria of PTSD after treatment were classified as NR. Two scales 0f self-related Trauma Antecedent Questionnaire (‘trauma and neglect’ TAQ-, and ‘resilience factors’ TAQ+), were administered to assess lifelong trauma load and resilience. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans 10 R and of 5 NR were compared before therapy by means of an optimized Voxel-Based Morphometry (VBM) analysis as implemented in SPM. For group analysis, a threshold of p<0.05 corrected for multiple comparisons at cluster level and an uncorrected threshold of p <0.001 at voxel-level were used.
NR subjects showed no significant differences nor in TAQ- scores neither in TAQ+ as compared to R(t=0.140, p+0.891). The contract R>NR exhibited a significant GM lower density in NR as compared to R in three different cluster: the first bilaterally located over posterior cingulate (Brodmann Areas, Bas 23 and 31); the second centered over the left precentral (BA 4), middle and medial frontal gyri (BA 6); the third including anterior insula (BA 13), and the complex anterior parahippocampal gyrus/amygdala, over the right hemisphere.
To our knowledge, this is the first study investigating GM alterations with a VBM approach in a sample of PTSD patients respond and non responding to EMDR therapy. Posterior cingulate, parahippocampal and insular lower GM concentrations have been found to relate to responsiveness to EMDR therapy suggesting a high vulnerability of these structures to the effects of stress and trauma. These regions are well known to be implicated in processes such as: integration, encoding and retrieval of autobiographical and episodic memories; emotional processing, interoceptive awareness and sefl-referential conscious experience. Thus, our study supports lower GM densities in limbic and paralimbic cortices as a potential structural basis for memory and dissociative dysfunction in PTSD. Using such methodological approach can contribute to better understand the neurostructural basis for traumatic responses and their treatment.

The preparation phase of eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) is very important in the therapy of multiply traumatized clients with complex posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and dissociative symptoms. EMDR clinicians who treat clients with complex trauma will benefit from learning specific readiness and stabilization interventions that are inherent to Phase 1 of a well-accepted phased trauma-treatment model. Newly learned information about coping can be reinforced and further integrated in the course of an EMDR session. Clients can be

2) In the second stage of treatment, the focus is on processing traumatic memories and decreasing behaviors related to post-traumatic
stress. EMDR interventions can be designed to assist clients with specific recovery tasks or issues:
- fear/terror and associated avoidance
- sense of powerlessnesshelplessness
- responsibility/accountability
- safety - self, others, environment
- self-esteem/self as bad, defective, unlovable

- Increasing self-efficacy and sense of mastery - Reclaiming sexuality

and vital self-image.

This presentation will introduce the basics of EMDR therapy and provide an overview of treatment. Both the theoretical foundation and recent research findings will be explored. EMDR is an evidence-based psychotherapy supported by more than 20 randomized controlled studies. Meta-analyses have indicated that the effects of EMDR on PTSD symptoms are comparable to those of trauma-focused CBT. However, EMDR therapy does not require homework, sustained arousal, detailed descriptions of the index trauma, or extended exposure to the event. While the eye movement component has been the subject of controversy, in the past decade an additional 20 randomized trials have evaluated the eye movements and demonstrated significantly superior effects compared to “exposure-only” conditions. The eye movements have been shown to (a) decrease the emotionality and vividness of memories, (b) create physiological relaxation responses, (c) facilitate access to associative memories and (d) lead to an increase in recognition of correct information. Two dominant theories regarding the role of the eye movements have emerged: (1) disruption of working memory and (2) elicitation of an orienting response. The research and clinical implications will be examined.
The goals of this presentation parallel those of the conference itself by allowing participants to evaluate ways in which EMDR therapy offers innovations in both conceptualization and clinical treatment. These innovations include ways to support therapy retention and increase stability for those clients ordinarily considered too fragile to tolerate memory processing. Outreach can also be increased through the use of consecutive-day trauma treatment. Relevant research will be reported on the use of EMDR therapy with diverse populations.
Participants will learn how the adaptive information processing theory that guides EMDR therapy practice offers a reconceptualization of (a) psychopathology, (b) therapeutic change, (c) the therapy relationship, (d) preparation for processing and (e) the multiple methods included in the therapy. The presentation will provide participants with the theoretical basis for EMDR therapy, an overview of the eight treatment phases, the three-pronged selection of processing targets, pertinent research, as well as applications to the full range of trauma victims. Prolonged exposure vs. EMDR for PTSD rape victims:
This controlled study aimed to evaluate the relative efficacy of Prolonged Exposure (PE)
and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) compared to a notreatment
wait-list control (WAIT) in the treatment of PTSD in adult female rape victims.
In this study, 75 Ss with PTSD were randomly assigned to one of the three
experimental conditions to achieve 20 completers per treatment group. All assessments
were conducted by an Independent Assessor blind to the treatment condition, and
standard measures of PTSD and related symptoms were incorporated. The primary
goals of this study were to compare the relative efficacy of EMDR and PE, and compare
them to the WAIT control group in treating PTSD in rape victims; to gather information
on the differential rate of response to treatment; to develop predictors for response to
treatment; and to gather information on the long-term response to treatment for six and
twelve months following treatment. The mean age of participants was 34.3 (SD = 11.9)
and ranges from 18-63 years. Most participants were Caucasian (69%); 24% are
African American, 3% are Latino, and 3% are Other. The majority were single (53%),
while 28% were married or living with a partner, and19% were divorced or separated.
Treated patients were significantly more improved on all of the PTSD symptom
categories as well as by PTSD diagnostic status than the WAIT participants
immediately post-treatment. Means and standard deviations of PTSD symptom
measures and other symptom measures will be presented and compared for
participants who received PE, EMDR, and WAIT at Pre-Treatment and Post-Treatment
and 6-month follow-up.

O assunto “trauma” vem adquirindo novos significados, considerando principalmente
acontecimentos sociais recentes, sejam eventos adversos, catástrofes, desastres,

das emergências estuda o comportamento das pessoas nos acidentes e desastres
desde uma ação preventiva até o pós-trauma e, se for o caso, subsidia intervenções
de compreensão, apoio e superação do trauma às vítimas e profissionais do SAMU.
O assunto se estende às questões que vão desde a experiência pessoal do trauma
até os eventos adversos provocados por calamidades, sejam estas naturais e/ou
provocadas pelo homem. A psicologia das emergências é um tema de angústia
pública, sentimento difuso de mal-estar que se origina dos acontecimentos públicos
traumáticos, chamados estressores, tais como os acidentes de trânsito com vítima,
assim como os provenientes das demais situações limites de toda a violência
urbana. O trauma é uma experiência que explode a capacidade de suportar um
revés, traz a perda de sentido, desorganização corporal e paralisação da
consciência temporal, pode deixar marcas que influenciam a criatividade e a
motivação para a vida. Os objetivos nos primeiros auxílios psicológicos são de aliviar
as manifestações sintomáticas e o sofrimento, reduzindo os sentimentos de
anormalidade e de enfermidade. Um dos objetivos é a familiarização com temas
considerados complexos e muitas vezes distantes das discussões sobre trauma
psicológico, sendo que o problema da pesquisa é a compreensão da psicologia das
emergências e como colocá-la em prática. Os autores mais utilizados são Edgar
Morin, Alfredo Moffatt, Serge Moscovici, Gilles Deleuze e Michel Foucault, dentre
outros. São abordados os temas do não-reducionismo, da epistemologia de si
mesmo e da relação da Teoria das Representações Sociais com o EMDR
(dessensibilização e reprocessamento através de movimentos oculares). O método
desta pesquisa, com suporte na observação participante refere às questões da
complexidade, análise multirreferencial e de implicação. As técnicas mais utilizadas
foram entrevistas, grupos focais-“histórias significativas” e análise documental. É
indicado, como atitudes favoráveis pensar não a partir de algo, mas, sobretudo sobre
algo e que para mudar o modo de agir torna-se necessário modificar a imagem que
uma pessoa tenha de si próprio. Como conclusões da pesquisa, observou-se: que
as pessoas acidentadas trazem outros acontecimentos considerados difíceis junto
com o depoimento sobre o acidente, como situações de luto e de sofrimento com
familiares; que o estresse pós-traumático não é uma conseqüência inevitável do
trauma; que não há nenhuma orientação, ou rotina, nas missões de socorros e nos
documentos oficiais do SAMU sobre o tema psicologia das emergências. Também
são indicadas considerações finais sobre os temas da Síndrome de Burnout, sobre a

The subject of "trauma" has acquired new meanings, especially considering
recent social events, are adverse events, catastrophes, disasters,
are the extreme situations experienced by people in urban daily life. Psychology
emergencies studies the behavior of people in accidents and disasters

his paper proposes that early deficits in adult clients with insecure-attachment
patterns can be addressed directly through a therapeutic component of imaginal
nurturing with EMDR. These clients may exhibit little sense of self, low self-esteem, a
sense of alienation, poor affect tolerance, inability to regulate emotions, inability to
empathize, and impaired interpersonal relationships. Traditionally, the burden of the
client's attachment deficits is left to be resolved through the therapeutic relationship
itself. In this paper, a three-pronged approach to therapy is suggested: affect tolerance
and emotion regulation skills training, imaginal nurturing, and trauma reprocessing, all
within the context of a validating and caring therapeutic relationship. The focus of this
paper is imaginal nurturing, the goals of which include developing an attachment
between the adult, and infant and child selves to create a new relationship to self in the
present. Two forms of imaginal nurturing are presented: Core Imaginal Nurturing,
freestanding imaginal work in which the client experiences both providing and
receiving nurturance, and Adjunctive Imaginal Nurturing which is incorporated into
trauma reprocessing. A conceptual basis for this work is provided, and examples are
given showing its use, benefits, and problems that can arise.

The duration of each set of eye movement is one of several variables that must be managed during EMDR. As we begin to work with patients, we choose the direction and rate of speed of each set of movements as well as the total number of movements per set. The basic guideline calls for 24 bi-directional movements for the first set. While subsequent sets may also consist of 24 passes, the length of the sets may be adjusted up or down depending upon patient response or therapeutic goals. Processing intense emotions, for examples, may call for longer sets, while shorter sets may be sufficient to evoke sequences of cognitive associations. While some therapists prefer to adhere to a rigid protocol, counting out each set, may others determine the length of each set intuitively.

Most clients who enter therapy do not have a simple problem of a single disturbing memory. More typically, clients come to therapy with a mixed presentation, of not only emotional disturbance, but also a history of conscious or unconscious choices about how best to soothe, contain, or avoid that disturbance. When the client has a problem that includes positive and negative affective components, we could say (in the language of Shapiro's Adaptive Information Processing Model) that the chain of experiential associations -- the dysfunctionally stored memory network -- has positively valued experience at the entry point into the network and disturbing material at other, less accessible places. Clients often experience this situation as one of conflicting ego states. Specifically, one ego state may be positively emotionally invested in an outcome that is an obstacle to the person's larger life goals. When this happens and the usual EMDR method of targeting negative affect is stalled, it may be useful to target the positive side of the issue, that is, an image that has a positive emotional valence. Such clients are asked to hold in mind the enjoyable aspects of a problematic wish or identity while engaging in Dual Attention Stimulation (DAS). In this way, they can process these positive aspects, "disinvest" from the problem, and go on to resolve the conflict. Several session transcripts illustrate how this approach can work in practice. Transpersonal psychology has been strongly influenced by the nondual spiritual traditions of the East. These traditions describe a natural unconditioned state of awareness that is every human's birthright. Realization of this awareness brings peace, freedom, joy, and acceptance of life as it is. As EMDR fosters personal integration and transformation, clients sometimes report contact with this profound awareness during a session. A specialized transpersonal EMDR protocol targets distractions to this awareness and can be used once clients have sufficiently progressed with the standard protocol. The transpersonal protocol, in conjunction with the open-hearted and quiet presence of the therapist, invites clients into their natural contentment. Goals, methods, and roles fall away as therapist and client discover their shared ground. The ritual of psychotherapy unfolds into satsang, the celebration of nondual awareness. Several spiritual teachers with nondual orientations confirm the value of EMDR in working with obscurations to this awareness. EMDR has a surprising and powerful contribution to make to transpersonal psychology by helping to facilitate and stabilize the experience of nondual awareness. [Text, p. 338]

This paper describes the treatment of female victim of 3/11 terrorist attacks who had developed a PTSD and a major depression. EMDR techniques, in vivo exposure, sleep hygiene and task planning, were used among other therapeutic techniques. So far, the following therapeutic goals have been achieved: decreasing re-experiencing and hyper-activation, mood restoration, affect expression recovering and improved concentration and memory. Since the patient had to tackle a pre-existing job-related life stressor, treatment was temporarily suspended and it will be resumed as this issue has been worked out. Abstract:
This study explored the use of adding trauma resolution therapy to standard cognitive-behavioral relapse prevention therapy for sex offenders. Ten adjudicated sex offenders with sexual abuse histories were treated with eye movement desensitization and reprocessing as an adjunct to standard outpatient sex offender treatment. Data points include self-report, other-report, assessment instruments, session transcripts, research journals, and physiological measures. Systematic treatment research and development methods (Bischoff, McKeel, Moon, & Sprenkle, 1996) resulted in a proposed treatment protocol. Emergent themes from a cross-case, grounded theory data analysis are presented. The data suggests the adjunct treatment provided some benefit both to participants and to the goals of standard sex offender-specific treatment. Implications for treatment providers, marriage and family therapy, and future research are discussed.

The role of trauma in the etiology of impotence or erectile dysfunction (ED) appears to be underestimated in the current sex therapy literature. With newer pharmacological treatments available, less attention is being given to exploring other modalities of intervention for this condition. In a thorough assessment of a client presenting with a complaints of impotence, it becomes evident that once a medical clearance is given which rules out organic factors, the very existence of the condition becomes an issue fraught with complexities and drama. The original onset of the ED may be perceived as traumatic in itself or evoke successive traumas over time. Or there may be residual trauma from the client’s early history, which impact on the development of the ED is not immediately accessible or evident to the client and/or therapist, thereby undermining the traditional sex therapy interventions for impotence. EMDR is an effective means of identifying and resolving trauma of varying origins. In light of this, it was offered as a treatment intervention to two clients, both of which were in their fifth decade of life and had opted out of pharmacological treatment of ED and who had not resolve the issue with other techniques. This 30 minute symposium presentation will include two clinical case presentations with the goals of elucidating the : 1) role of the traumatic component in erectile dysfunction, 2) use of the EMDR standard protocol as an element of the treatment and rapid resolution of ED, 3) unique suitability of EMDR in sex therapy for client without partners.

Patients facing medical problems present for psychotherapy with a variety of concerns which include: distress or fears about
the illness or condition itself (i.e., cancer, need for surgery, etc.); anxiety about various aspects of the treatment they need to
undergo; and some have trepidation about interaction with medical personnel. At the same time, patients may also be
concerned about the strength or weakness of their bodies to heal.
In addition, many patients suffer from chronic conditions which occur in either acute or chronic episodes and undermine
their lives, leaving them feeling debilitated and less functional than desired (i.e., asthma, migraine, functional bowel
distress, PMS). Some aspects of illness may be the result of somatization due to childhood trauma, secondary gain,
unconscious need to mask strong negative affect; Dissociative disorders or conversion reactions; as well as acute or chronic
stress.
History-taking includes, 1) a description of the condition, 2) the patient's perceptions or beliefs about the illness, 3) the
patient's experience with the medical system, 4) the patient's medical and personal goals. Personal history should include,
1) current life issues and past stressors, 2) significant life events, as well as the patient's pattern of coping. EMDR in
association with other psychotherapeutic techniques such as hypnosis is useful in the following ways; A) to desensitize
negative or traumatic events associated with medical treatments; B) to uncover as appropriate, stress-related or
psychological factors which may either exacerbate or be causal to the condition; C) to more quickly gain access to
underlying factors which may block healing; D) to activate the patient's own potential to heal; E) to enable the patient to
project oneself with hope into the future. Specific cases using EMDR along with other psychotherapeutic techniques will be
presented.

EMDR is a psychotherapy and sport psychology technique
that allows fears and traumas to be resolved and belief
systems reframed at both the conscious and unconscious
levels. This presentation will introduce a framework for when
and how to combine work at the conscious level using
cognitive behavioral techniques and in-depth techniques that
work with the unconscious mind like EMDR. The preliminary
and intervention phases of a high performance sport psychology framework will be discussed. The preliminary
phase defines the athletes concerns. It includes a performance
assessment of mental, physical, and technical aspects of
performance. The assessment information is used to outline
intervention goals and build rapport with the athlete.
Interventions have two paths. One is cognitive behavioral; the
second is working with the preconscious or unconscious mind
to resolve fears or traumas and reframe belief systems. In the
first path, the intervention systematically progresses, using
cognitive behavioral techniques, until either the performance
blocks are resolved, or the desired changes do not occur. In the
case of the latter, the second (deeper) path is suggested. For
those who are not, suggestions for collaborating with an
individual trained in EMDR will be provided.

Traditional therapy models often reflect Western values and norms and may be inappropriate for use with many non-Western
cultures. Worldwide, therapists are beginning to examine how they can make these models culturally sensitive to minorities,
immigrants, and non-Western clients; however, it is time to go beyond “being aware,” understanding and appreciating
differences, and adapting individual interventions to actively responding to the needs of their clients by using models that
have theoretical underpinnings, underlying assumptions, and basic tenets that are consistent with those of non-Western
clients (Carlson, 1999) and promote social justice for those clients, their families, and the surrounding communities. This
paper suggests the use of responsive evaluation to explore Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) as
a culturally responsive therapy. Responsive evaluation can be used to consider each unique client and therapist context,
culture, power, needs, and beliefs, and family and individual needs in determining a culturally responsive model of therapy.
In this presentation, we provide therapists and scholars a model for offering culturally responsive EMDR therapy and
research using responsive evaluation as a framework. An in-depth description of responsive evaluation will be provided, and
explanations and examples of how it is consistent with the goals and theories underlying culturally responsive therapy will
be given. Finally, concrete suggestions of how EMDR clinicians and scholars can apply this methodology will be provided. As
the EMDR continues to be taught and used across Asia, it is crucial that we continue to observe and respond to the needs of
clients throughout Asia.

De prevalentie van DSM-IV dissociatieve stoornissen onder psychiatrische patiënten is ongeveer 10%, waarvan de helft betrekking heeft op de dissociatieve identiteitsstoornis (DIS), dat wil zeggen, de meest complexe dissociatieve stoornis. De prevalentie van de ICD-10 dissociatieve stoornissen van motoriek en zintuiglijke gewaarwording zijn hier niet in mee gerekend, noch andere stoornissen die door dissociatie gekenmerkt worden. De vraag doet zich voor hoe het mogelijk is dat zelfs ervaren therapeuten kunnen opmerken dat ze nimmer patiënten met een dissociatieve stoornis zijn tegen gekomen. Een van de oorzaken is dat psychiatrisch epidemiologisch en klinisch onderzoek nog al te vaak de screening van dissociatieve stoornissen achterwege laat en dat het gezegde “onbekend maakt onbemind” zeker ook op de psychiatrie van toepassing is. Aan de andere kant maken de specialisten op dit terrein niet-ingewijde collega’s niet gemakkelijk. Over de vraag wat onder dissociatie moet worden bestaan, bijvoorbeeld, bestaan enorme meningsverschillen. En waaraan dissociatieve problematiek kan worden afgelezen, wordt evenmin erg duidelijk gemaakt. Sooner or EMDR therapists should let people with trauma-related dissociative disorder treatment. The prevalence of DSM-IV dissociative disorders among psychiatric patients is approximately 10%, half of which relates to the dissociative identity disorder (DID), ie, the most complex dissociative disorder. The prevalence of ICD-10 dissociative disorders of motor function and sensation are not counted them, or other disorders that are characterized by their cleavage. The question arises how it is possible that even experienced therapists can observe that they never patients with dissociative disorder have encountered. One reason is that psychiatric epidemiological and clinical studies all too often the screening of dissociative disorders is neglected and that the saying "unknown, unloved 'certainly applies to psychiatry. On the other hand, the specialists in this field uninitiated colleagues is not easy. About what should be under dissociation exist, for example, there are enormous differences of opinion. And dissociative problems which can be read, is not very clear. The goals of this presentation are: (1) clarity about dissociation, (2) show the distinction between dissociation of the personality and manifestations, (3) explanation of the essence of the theory of structural dissociation, (4) scientific evidence for dissociation of personality show, and (5) show how EMDR treatments for people with complex trauma-related dissociation of personality should be involved.

Abstract:
The objectives of this presentation are to define ADHD in the various ways it presents adults, using EMDR cognitions and
observations of clients as clues; then, to clarify why and EMDR works differently before, during, and after diagnosis,
The presenter will provide background on the biological differences of those with the disorder, some thoughts on why this diagnosis
is becoming so frequent at this time and why therapists who use EMDR may be more likely to have the disorder and to see it in their
clients.
During the workshop participants will explore their own attitudes toward ADHD and learn about how these attitudes influence their
ability to identify and assess ADHD symptoms in clients. Values, judgments and common myths about ADHD will be briefly
discussed.
Specific suggestions about modifying treatment when ADHD is suspected, suggested as a possible diagnosis to the client, and
treated will be given, including a list of modified positive cognitions. Treatment planning ideas for clients with a variety of
concurrent diagnoses will be offered, with special attention to the problems of resistance to the diagnosis, the medications use for
treatment, and the process of adapting patterns to solve specific problems, using a specific example a group treatment planning
exercise will be conducted. The actual treatment history of the case will be given clarifying how the treatment goals were reached.
There will he time for participants to formulate negative and positive cognitions regarding their attitudes toward ADHD clients and
the use of appropriate medications, and to assess the strength those attitudes, SUDS scales will be used.
Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions and will obtain a bibliography, a client questionnaire, a list of modified
cognitions, and a summary of resources for medical treatment, education and social support.
